- What are the language requirements to join the programme?
All students will have to either send documentation of English proficiency or provide an interview (via Skype) (please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you require this option). Regarding documentation, we accept either IELTS (6.0) or TOEFL tests (min. 560 in paper-based test or IBT 83). If you are a native speaker of English or have completed your BSc degree in English, no formal test is required.
The TOEFL test results may be sent either directly from the testing centre or as a certified copy.
For IELTS please provide the test center with the exact address of the Erasmus Mundus Secretariat. Alternatively, a certified copy of the test can be included with the application. Language tests must not be older than 2 years at the time of submission of the application.
- How do I apply to the programme?
You can download the Application Form from this website. Please fill in the form and forward it with all obligatory enclosures to the MEDfOR Secretariat.
- Is it acceptable to only send the application form electronically?
Yes! But the recommendation letter need to be send directly to us by the referee (email@example.com).
- Is the application deadline by postmark?
No! Your application must have been received at the Secretariat no later than the date of the deadline in order to be considered.
- Can I apply to this programme if I already hold an MSc degree?
Yes! It is possible to apply.
- I will not receive my BSc diploma before the deadline of submission expires; can I send my diploma after the graduation?
Due to application procedures and deadlines, this is only possible, if you are an EU student. Your university must, in that case, confirm in writing that you will graduate no later than July in the year of admission. You should immediately upon receipt of the certified diploma mail a copy to the MEDfOR Secretariat. Assessment of your application can not be finalised until the certified diploma has been received. Students from Non-EU/EEA-EFTA countries MUST submit their diploma with the application form.
- What kind of certification is required?
Your documents must have an original stamp and a signature verifying the “True Copy”. Typically, your university will be able to assist you in certifying your documents. Otherwise, we also accept signatures by embassies and representations or public offices, e.g. police stations.
- What is the assessment procedure?
Each application is assessed by at least two senior academic assessors. Each assessment category (i.e. academic potential, motivation, recommendations and relevant work experience) is allocated a grade between 0 and 5. A final application grade is obtained using a weighting system whereby 65% of the final grade is allocated to academic potential, 15% to work experience and 10% to each other category.
- I would like to be considered as a self-financed student but I will only finish my degree/master thesis in September. May I apply anyway?
Yes. You may be eligible and, but if you enroll in MEDfOR, you will need to provide the necessary credentials during the initial months to complete your application. If you do not present your credentials, you will be excluded from the programme.
- Can I file a complaint?
If you believe that standard MEDfOR assessment procedures have not been adhered to in relation to your application, you must notify the MEDfOR Secretariat no later than two weeks after receiving your letter of rejection.
- Will the submitted material be returned to me?
No! The submitted materials are never returned. It is destroyed or filed (for accepted students).
- How much are the participation costs for a self-funded student?
In the case of European students they are 3000 € per year irrespectively of host institution, and for Non-European 6000 € per year.
- When do I have to pay participation costs?
The costs shall be paid upon arrival to the University, immediately after the registration.
- Are there any other sources of funding available?
The Secretariat has compiled a list of relevant sources. Please consult the section “MEDFOR Student Scholarships” on the website for alternative sources of funding.
- What will be the estimated costs of living in Europe?
The estimated costs are around 500 euros per month. The living costs section contains an overview of expenses and a student budget according to host institution.
- How do I find accommodation?
Your host institution will assist you in finding accommodation. You will receive instructions and an application form for housing with your letter of admission.
- How can third-country students and scholars obtain a visa to study in Europe on anthis Master Programme?
Once third-country students and scholars have received a letter of admission from their first year institution, they must apply for the visa.

We kindly inform scholarship holders that the processing VISA fee must be paid by you. Unfortunately, we cannot make any payments of your scholarship in advance to cover travel, fees etc.
- When can I expect to receive my visa?
It generally takes 10-12 weeks to process a complete application. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you start the application process as soon as you receive your admission letter. A delay in handing in the complete application could add approximately 8 weeks to the process.
- Who arranges and pays for my travel?
Unfortunately, the Secretariat is not able to assist you in your travel arrangements. Therefore, you must manage the booking of tickets yourself.
- Do I need to purchase an insurance?
No. The participation costs of all students already cover the insurance.
